West Shore, BC, Canada: The Western Communities consists of the areas of Langford, Colwood, View Royal, the Highlands, Sooke and Metchosin BC. West Shore is made up many individual communities separated by trees, roads, oceans and rivers. Each community in the West Shore stands on its own with each having its own unique character. Some of the nicest scenic winding roads are in the West Shore area leading you pass open fields, sandy beaches covered in driftwood, marinas, parks, trails and farmers markets.
The Highlands is a stunningly beautiful rural residential area just northwest of Victoria British Columbia Canada. It's blessed with an exceptional abundance of scenic beauty, native plant and animal life, and public parkland.
Langford BC is one of the fastest growing communities in the Victoria area. The downtown core of Langford is filled with shops housed in heritage-style buildings, mixed with big box stores, specialty shops, restaurants and coffee shops. The parks in the area like Goldstream Park and Thetis Lake Park draws many people to the Langford area.
Sooke, BC is the largest of the West Shore communities. The Sooke area is populated with many artisan studios and galleries. There is a village core with stores and many accommodations in the area. The drive to Sooke from the commercial stores of Langford is a winding road past forests and fields soon opening up to ocean glimpses when you are about to enter the seaside community of Sooke BC.
The rural West Shore area of Metchosin BC is only a 20 minute drive from Victoria. Metchosin is where nature meets coastline with the area becoming well known as a wilderness adventure getaway location for hikers and Bird Watchers. The Metchosin area enjoys marshlands ideal for Wildlife Watching. There are many trails like the Galloping Goose and Albert Head Regional Park. There are numerous parks in Metchosin like East Sooke Park and Devonian Regional Park to explore. Every where in Metchosin BC seems to be surrounded by second growth forests.
The West Shore community of Colwood BC is located 10 kilometres away from Victoria, BC. That's about 6 miles. The Colwood area is a residential area with a growing commercial core and some impressive heritage buildings like the St. John Baptist Church building.
The Western Community of View Royal is more of an urban friendly style neighbourhood with a residential feel. The View Royal area is an ideal destination for cycling and is close to Victoria and all the amenities. The View Royal area has some parks and some areas with waterfront access to some amazing ocean views.
Throughout the West Shore area is many nature parks like Portage Park in View Royal; Triangle Mountain and Hatley Park in Colwood; Goldstream Park, Thetis Lake Park and Mill Hill Regional Park in Langford; Witty's Lagoon Regional Park and Albert Head Regional Park in Metchosin and Willis Point in the Highlands. |
